Nechranice dam

Nechranice dam With an area of 1338 ha, the Nechranice Reservoir is the fifth largest dam reservoir in the Czech Republic and also the dam reservoir with the longest spillway dam in Central Europe (3280 meters). It was built on the river Ohře in the years 1961 to 1968, especially as a source of water for nearby power plants in Tušimice. It is also used for recreation. Part of it was declared a Bird Area and is part of the Natura 2000 system. It is located in northern Bohemia in the district of Chomutov, between the towns of Kadaň, Chomutov and Žatec.

The left (northern) part of the reservoir and the whole dam falls into the cadastral area Březno u Chomutova (which also includes the village Nechranice located directly below the dam), the southern part of the reservoir is divided into cadastral areas Vikletice, Vadkovice and Poláky (belonging to the village Chbany). The cadastral territory of the village of Rokle and the cadastral territory of Tušimice in Kadaň end on the western and northwestern sides of the reservoir.
